CMYK-style dot screens as clean vector

The halftone dot is the building block of print: rows of dots, rotated to an angle, that read as a tone from a distance. As a flat pattern (not driven by a photo) it's a punchy graphic device for comics, posters and pop-art backgrounds.

Control the dot spacing, the maximum dot size and the screen angle, then drop the result behind type or inside a shape. It exports as clean vector, so the dots stay sharp at any scale.

Working the controls

  1. Set the dot spacing and size for a fine print screen or chunky comic dots.
  2. Rotate the screen angle — 15° and 45° are the classic print angles.
  3. Pick the ink color against the ground.
  4. Export SVG to keep the dots crisp behind type or inside a clipped shape.

Put it to work

  • comic and pop-art panel backgrounds
  • poster and cover fields
  • bold graphic section fills
  • merch and apparel prints

FAQ

How is this different from the Photo Halftone tool?

This makes a flat, even dot pattern as a graphic element. The Photo Halftone tool reads an uploaded image and varies the dots to reproduce its tones as a portrait.

What screen angle should I use?

15° is the conventional single-screen angle and looks balanced; 45° feels more diagonal and energetic. For a faux-CMYK stack, layer copies at different angles.

Can I clip it inside text or a shape?

Yes — export the SVG and use it as a fill or clip-path inside type or a shape in your design tool for that classic dotted-letter look.
